Grow a Tree in '23!

The beginning of December marked “National Tree Week” which was first established in the wake of the devastation of our native elm to the Dutch elm disease in 1973.  The UK’s first campaign, led by the newly formed The Tree Council took place two years later in 1975.

The Dutch elm disease is a fungal disease which swept through the country in the early 1970’s. The country came together in a nationwide response to Plant a Tree in ’73 and 50 years on, the public have been called upon again to Grow a Tree in ’23 to pay tribute to the original campaign.

Nationally, we are making great gains to increase our tree population, however it is vital that trees are maintained and managed correctly to fight climate change, ensure disease and pests are detected and treated, along with the supporting of wildlife.  It is important therefore that the right tree is planted in the right place.

The change in campaign name from ‘Plant a Tree’ to ‘Grow a Tree’ is to reflect the continued care trees need to ensure they thrive.

We at Beautiful Borders encourage the planting of native trees and can advise you on the best type for the most suitable place you have, ensuring its best possible start. Every species of tree has a different purpose and needs, so it is really important to get that right to ensure it’s success.  From site aspect, soil type to size will all be factored in when advising you on the species most suitable for your garden or area.

We can supply UK sourced and grown native trees to ensure prevention of the spread of imported pests and diseases. We can deliver, plant and also maintain the tree/s with pruning and cutting back as required.

Between now and March is the ideal time to get your trees in the ground while in their dormant state, so they are less likely to get damaged or need so much watering in.

So, if you are thinking of trees in your garden, but are waiting for warmer weather or the spring – don’t! It will be too late!

Contact us now to discuss your tree requirements and let’s grow for ’23 and grow more in ’24!!
